School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering


First established in November 2009, School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering is formerly known as Department of Electricity of Jiangxi Water Conservancy and Electric Power College established in August 1958, setting up such two undergraduate majors at the earliest as water energy power unit and thermal power unit. Our School has 3050 students engaged in full-time junior college, undergraduate and postgraduate programs now, with a total value of instrument and equipment of 42 million yuan, having more than 2,000 sets of equipment, construction area of over 28,000m2, distributed in nearly 50 laboratories or practical training rooms.

Our School currently has 122 faculty members, including 16 professors, 53 associate professors and senior engineers; there are 34 teachers having PhD degree, 73 teachers having master’s degree, 1 provincial-level famous teacher, 1 educated object for provincial young scientist, 5 candidates for provincial-level millions talents project, 1 young and middle aged subject leader in provincial higher institutions, 6 young and middle key teachers in provincial higher institutions and 1 provincial-level model teacher. Our School now has 19 master supervisors, and seven of them act as master supervisors in Nanchang University of other higher institutions.

Our School sets up such 7 undergraduate majors as mechanical design, manufacture and automation, materials forming and control engineering, mechatronic engineering, vehicle engineering, thermal energy and power engineering, electrical engineering and automation, automation, as well as 1 major for junior college program, power equipment and management of hydropower station. In which, the major of thermal energy and power engineering is the major of second batch of “pilot project for outstanding engineers education training plan” of Ministry of Education and Jiangxi Province and a provincial-level characteristic major. The major of electrical engineering and automation is the major for comprehensive reform and demonstration in Jiangxi and a provincial-level characteristic major, which has realized batch-one admission in Jiangxi, Henan and Hebei; the major of power equipment and management of hydropower station is a pilot major for state-level major teaching reform.

Precision driving and control laboratory is provincial-level and municipal-level key lab of Jiangxi and Nanchang; the discipline of mechatronic engineering is a provincial-level major discipline of higher institutions in Jiangxi for “the 12th five-year plan”; the discipline of power system and automation is a school-level major discipline of NIT for “the 12th five-year plan”. The field of power engineering started master training pilot in 2012. The teaching and research office of hydroelectric power engineering is a provincial-level teaching team, and the teaching and research office of materials engineering is a school-level teaching team.

Teachers of our School have presided over and undertaken 11 national natural science foundation projects, presided over and completed or undertaken over 100 provincial and ministerial level scientific research projects, published over 40 textbooks and published over 700 academic papers, including over 300 ones in SCI and EI, obtained 6 scientific research and teaching achievement awards at department and bureau level and above, and more than 100 inventions and other patents.

Our School achieves remarkable education achievements in college students’ technological innovation, having successively obtained 1 first prize, 4 second prizes and 3 third prizes in national college students’ competitions like “Challenge Cup”, “Electronic Design”, “Mechanical Innovation”, and so on. We have also built more than 20 off-campus internship bases for talent cultivation under industry-university-research cooperation in and out of the province; the graduates’ employment rate and average postgraduate qualifying rate in recent three years are among the best in NIT.
