National and Local United Engineering Laboratory of Water Engineering Safety and Efficient Utilization of Resources in Poyang Lake Area
I. Laboratory Profile (including research orientation and equipment)
National and Local United Engineering Laboratory of Water Engineering Safety and Efficient Utilization of Resources in Poyang Lake Area (hereinafter referred to the Lab) was established in January 2016, it is the first state-level scientific research platform of NIT and also the first state-level scientific research platform in the field of water engineering safety and efficient utilization of resources in Jiangxi. The Lab possesses a batch of core technologies with proprietary intellectual property rights, it has cultivated a lot of high-level technical talents and provided powerful technical support for serving local economic and social development and improving the industry competitiveness at home and abroad.
The Lab takes such major economic and social demand as orientation as ecological water conservancy project and its ecological function evaluation, safety supervision and early warning of water engineering, eco-hydrology and water resource information technology application integration, soil erosion control and ecological restoration for southern typical erosion place of origin, and etc., takes the construction of “major water conservancy projects”, “green rise”, “sponge city”, “ecological civilization construction” in Jiangxi Province and “a lake of clear water” of Poyang Lake as opportunity, gathering and cultivating industry innovation talents, striving for building a national leading technical research and engineering application center with outstanding features, advanced equipment and scientific management, which integrates ecological water conservancy project, water engineering safety, eco-hydrology and water resources as well as the water and soil conservation and ecological restoration service for southern typical places of origin, building four major high-level service platforms facing the practical situation of water conservancy in Poyang Lake area and also solving key technical problems in planning, designing, construction and management of ecological water conservancy project.
The Lab will lead the development of the discipline of water engineering safety and efficient utilization of resources of NIT, acting as the leader of the discipline of ter engineering safety and efficient utilization of resources and driving the rapid development and convergence of relevant disciplines like water conservancy, ecology, surveying and mapping engineering, geotechnical engineering, geological engineering, landscape engineering, port and waterway engineering, architecture, planning, underground engineering, mechanical engineering, computer technology, applied economics, and etc., emphasizing on building knowledge source area, technology diffusion area, academic exchange area and information service area in terms of ter engineering safety and efficient utilization of resources, mainly focusing on the following directions to carry out scientific and technological innovation:
(1) ecological water conservancy project and its ecological function evaluation;
(2) safety supervision and early warning of water engineering;
(3) eco-hydrology and water resource information technology application integration;
(4) soil erosion control and ecological restoration for southern typical erosion place of origin.
Under the support by National Development and Reform Commission, Jiangxi Development and Reform Commission and NIT, the Lab is rapidly developing, and the scientific research strength and talent team are constantly growing. The Lab currently owns 3000m2 specialized laboratories, with total value of instrument and equipment of about 30 million yuan, including over 140 sets of large instrument and equipment.
II. Talent Team
At present, the Lab has 102 researchers, and 83 of them owns PhD degree, including 1 Changjiang Scholar, 3 foreign professors, 5 experts enjoying special allowance from the State Council, 5 persons in millions cross-century talent project above provincial level, 3 persons in Ganpo elite 555 talent project and 2 training objects for provincial young scientist. The Lab currently owns 102 professional technicians, including 40 persons having the professional titles of professor and professor-level senior engineer, 62 persons having the professional title of associate professor and senior engineer, 83 persons having PhD degree, and doctors accounting for 81% of total number of people.

III. Scientific Research Achievements
Currently, the Lab roots in serving for the economic construction in Jiangxi and national hydraulic and hydropower undertakings, strives for launching prospective study, product development and engineering application research with local features in the field of water conservancy, having successively undertaken over 350 scientific research projects, including 38 state-level projects, 167 provincial and ministerial level and over 150 other projects, achieving scientific research funds of over 50 million yuan; rooting in serving for hydraulic industry and enterprises, we have obtained horizontal project cooperation funds of almost 30 million yuan in recent 4 years by virtue of contract entrustment, technical consultation, inspection and supervision. What’s more, we have also obtained 5 prizes for progress of scientific and technological achievement at provincial and ministerial level, 12 patents for invention, having published over 300 high-level academic papers in the publications at home and abroad, including over 150 SCI/EI retrieval.
