Supported by Nanchang Institute of Technology, in allusion to major “water” problem in the construction process of “Poyang Lake Ecological Economic Zone”, the Laboratory takes “five rivers and one lake”—Poyang Lake Basin in Jiangxi as major research object to conduct theory, method and application study in the orientation of water cycle and water resources safety, water ecology and water environment evolution law, basin water and soil loss and ecological restoration; takes the organic combination of basic research, application basis research and demonstration and popularization as paradigm to provide technology support for sustainable utilization of regional water resources and the construction of ecological environment, having gradually developed into an open-ended, multi-disciplinary and comprehensive academic exchange base, theory and application talent cultivation base and scientific innovation and achievement transformation base with certain influence at home and abroad. It plans to solve the following major scientific problems:
(1) Water Cycle and Water Resources Safety
Water cycle process and its response mechanism under dual effect of natural and human activities, evolution laws of regional water resources; hydrological model development and its system simulation on hydrology and water resources; R&D of real-time monitoring system of basin water resources, sustainable utilization and optimal allocation of regional water resources; reservoir ecological optimal dispatching technology, hydraulic structure safety, dynamic monitoring and information analysis and processing.
(2) Water Ecology and Water Environment Evolution LawStress analysis model of river ecological system and regulation measures; correlation of lake ecological system compound stable status of Poyang Lake and stable status transition mechanism, response of lake environment and ecological system on influencing factors like major hydraulic projects; lake water resources formation, sustainability maintenance mechanism and spatial and temporal variation rule, river-lake-basin healthy standard and evaluation indicator system; establishment of pollution load model and water quality model in hilly area based on digital valley system.
(3) Basin Water and Soil Loss and Ecological Restoration
The impact of water and soil loss on river sediment, water quality of river and basic ecological water utilization of ecological system of rivers and lakes; the impact of mountain development in basin on the water environment and quality in important water source regions, small basic comprehensive harnessing and the prevention, control and restoration of understory water and soil loss; prevention, control and ecological restoration of water and soil loss for development and construction activities; evaluation of ecological service value of basin water resources, ecological compensation elements of basin and its correlation, dynamic modeling and ecological co-building and sharing mechanism of basin ecological compensation, quantitative standard and compensation forms and means of basin ecological compensation, study on interested parties of basin ecological compensation.
